First Steps Into My Study- August 30th, 2021

For my field of study, I plan to pursue Artificial Intelligence and the prospects it brings to society. I’ve always wanted to study computer science at college, and I believe that researching Artificial Intelligence in ISM will help me with my future career. In order to find a mentor and make connections, I set up a LinkedIn page. With my LinkedIn page, I inputted all my volunteer experience, the clubs I am a part of, and the organizations I hold officer positions in. Furthermore, I have browsed through recent articles and studies on Artificial Intelligence to further educate myself on the subject. Additionally, I set up my digital portfolio website in order to showcase my findings and update my research. I used the Wix Creator to set up my digital portfolio. I was successful with setting up my website and properly curating a profile on LinkedIn. This following week, I plan to work on researching more recent studies on Artificial Intelligence. I will find an insightful article on my topic and consider the articles' input into my study. Also, I will look into ways to present myself professionally for once I have to enter a workplace with my mentor. Finally, I will prepare myself for any possible interview questions I may be asked.

Gathering Insight On Artificial Intelligence- September 6, 2021

This week, I researched on the internet and looked for recent articles or studies about the current topic I am studying, which is artificial intelligence. After I spent some time browsing through various studies, I found an article that claims that the automation of society will bring more job opportunities and help the economy prosper. I choose this article for my first research assessment project and used it to further my knowledge on the prospects of artificial intelligence. I read, annotated, and developed a set of thoughts and questions about the article for my assignment. Furthermore, this article helped me narrow down what I will specifically look more into for my ISM topic, which will be the pros and cons of the automation of society. While this article spoke positively about the subject, I will also look into other opinions on the topic I am researching to make sure my study is well-rounded. Also, in addition to annotating the article, this week I prepared a set of interview questions that I plan on asking any specialists of artificial intelligence that I will reach out to in the future. These questions range from asking these specialists about the skills they use for their job, to their thoughts about automating certain tasks and labor. I hope to gain more insight into the career of someone who works with artificial intelligence and practice my ability to be professional in a workplace setting.

Learning Professionalism- September 13, 2021

Similar to last week, this week I also had to research on the internet to gather information about the topic I am studying currently, which is artificial intelligence. After browsing through various articles and studies, I landed upon an article that provides a comprehensive overview of the topic of automation. I annotated while I read through the article and then wrote an assessment paper on the knowledge I acquired from the research article. After this assessment paper, my interest in artificial intelligence has greatly increased, and I definitely see myself pursuing this not only in ISM, but in the future as a career as well. One challenge I faced while completing my research assessment was the complex wording that the article used at times, however, I understood most of it pretty well. In addition to my research, I also bought a professional outfit that I will wear to any interviews I have. Also, I can use this outfit for any other career endeavors I have in the future, such as job interviews. Furthermore, this week I also created a draft of a resume that I will provide to possible mentors, employers, or to colleges. This week, I will work on finalizing my resume and take the constructive criticism of other students in ISM to make sure my resume is well made. Additionally, this week I will work on another research assessment that will most likely be specific to one subfield in AI. Also, I will show Coach Goff my professional suit so she can verify my interviewing status.

Diving Deeper Into Artificial Intelligence- September 20, 2021

This week in ISM, I finalized the resume that I started working on last week. In order to ensure that my resume is properly made, I took the constructive criticism of other students in the ISM program. Also, I gave constructive critique to other students on their resumes. Taking the advice of other students really helped me make sure my resume looked professional. Also, this week, I worked on another research assessment over a paper that talked about facial recognition software, which is a subfield of artificial intelligence. I acquired an interest in this topic at first because I read about it in my last research article. After reading my recent research article, I don’t see myself pursuing this concept any further, so I will head into another direction in my next research assessment. However, this topic was still very fascinating to learn and read about. After reading this article, I wrote a reflection about my thoughts and questions while looking through the research provided. Next week, I will build more upon my contact list so that I can acquire interviews for my research. Also, I will further research artificial intelligence so that I can create a topic proposal for my original work project. Also, I will create goals for my ISM journey to ensure success in the program.

Contacting Professionals- September 27, 2021

This week in ISM, I reached out to multiple professionals in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning in order to request interviews. Currently, I have one interview scheduled for this Friday in order to learn more information about artificial intelligence startups. This interview will be with Mr. Boren, a specialist in information technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. In addition to my upcoming interview, this previous week I also worked on my fourth research assessment. For this assessment, I chose an article over the principles of the ethicality of artificial intelligence, and how to ensure that the development of artificial intelligence can ensure benefits to humankind. Also, I worked on my topic proposal essay, where I introduced the topic I intend to pursue during my ISM journey. My topic is over artificial intelligence and machine learning, and in my proposal, I discussed the reasons why I chose this specific topic to study. Also, in my proposal, I wrote about my intentions for my study, and how I will plan to utilize my experience in my ISM research in my professional career and life. Finally, at the end of the week, I established my goals and deadlines for the projects I have during ISM, both during semester one and semester two.

First Interview- October 4, 2021

This week in ISM involved many more steps into working on my original work product and learning more about the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Firstly, during the earlier parts of my week, I started brainstorming what to create for my original work project. I knew it had to synthesize my knowledge of artificial intelligence, so I pondered about the true purpose of artificial intelligence in society. In my opinion, artificial intelligence is produced and developed in order to benefit humankind and make calculations more efficient and accurate. Thus, I developed the idea to create an artificial intelligence predictive model. I worked on the idea for my original work by completing my original work proposal, which detailed the plan for my artificial intelligence predictive model. I wrote about the purpose of my model, how it synthesizes my knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and how it progresses the development of society. In addition to this, I had my first interview this week with Mr. Boren. In my hour-long interview with him, he taught me about the use of lean start-ups and MVPs to market artificial intelligence, and his extensive experience in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The knowledge he provided me was greatly useful, and I look forward to writing a research assessment over his interview.

Business Symposium- October 11, 2021

This week in ISM was very eventful, even though the week was only 4 school days. Firstly, to start off the week, I had a virtual interview with Srini Veerapandian from Ericsson. He is their senior solutions architect, and I had the amazing opportunity to interview him about the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He provided me with some great insight into his career, and I am very fortunate to learn from him. Furthermore, I also interviewed Bradley Shogren from UnitedHealth on Wednesday, in person. During our meeting, he discussed with me the programming he utilizes in order to analyze data and predict results for his work. The programming and purpose he discussed with me were very similar to my idea for my original work product, so I was very fortunate to learn from him. Moreover, he also showed me the programming he does on a daily basis, and how he uses PowerQuiery on Excel Spreadsheets in order to complete the data analytics. Overall, it was a very informative meeting, and I am very grateful for the opportunity. Finally, on Thursday, I attended the ISM Business Symposium, which was at Emerson High School, and multiple other schools in the Frisco ISD ISM program attended as well. I got to network with fellow students in the ISM program, and hear about the prospects that they have for their future in ISM. Furthermore, I got the opportunity to hear from professionals about their careers and their advice on how to garner success. Additionally, I also saw Mr. Shogren, whom I interviewed on Wednesday, at a panel discussion.

Short Week- October 18, 2021

This week in ISM was the last week of the nine weeks grading period. Firstly, this week, I wrote an observation assessment over the ISM Business Symposium. The assessment detailed and documented the rotation sessions I went through on October 7th, and also discussed which rotations were the most helpful with the advice they gave me. Overall, the assessment was a great opportunity for me to reflect on my notes and experiences at the ISM Business Symposium, and to discuss what advice I will use and refer to in my everyday life. We had a short school week this week since we had a four-day weekend. Moreover, I wrote letters to the professionals I had interviewed, Mr. Boren, Mr. Shogren, and Mr. Veerapandian. These letters were to thank them for their time, and to display my gratitude. Lastly, I reached out to and connected with more professionals on Linkedin in order to get more information and opportunities for interviews, even though I have already completed my required 3 interviews. Next, this following week will be a lot busier than this week. This next week, I have 2 more assessments to complete by Friday, where I will do one research assessment over an annotated article, and an interview assessment over my interview with Mr. Veerapandian.

Working On My Original Work Project- October 24, 2021

To start off the week, I worked on my 7th assessment, which was about my interview with Mr. Srini Veerapandian. Then, I had an interview with Mr. Apoorv Saxena on Tuesday, October 19th. Mr. Saxena has extensive experience as a developer of AI Cloud, and he is the head of Global AI at JPMorgan Chase, so this was a very exciting opportunity for me. The interview was virtual since he lives in the Bay Area, but I am very grateful to learn from him. I wrote my 8th assessment over our interview. Then, over the weekend, I developed some more of my digital portfolio website, updated my blogs, and created the research section of my website, which links all my interview assessments and research assessments. Then, I worked on my original work project by gathering what programs I can use in order to build my AI/ML predictive model. First, I looked at some courses on CodeAcademy in order to know which courses I will use to build my model. I started a basics of Python 3 course on CodeAcademy and went through a couple of modules, which took around an hour. Then, I read through some articles on predictive models, and read on how I should go about beginning my predictive model.

Advice From My Peers- November 1, 2021

This week in ISM, I updated some more of my digital portfolio website. I updated my assessments section and my blogs. Also, I amped up my website a bit more in order to present myself more professionally. Furthermore, I peer reviewed the digital portfolio websites of two of my peers and gave them any advice or constructive criticism I had for their websites. I was very impressed with the work of my peers, and I made sure to convey that to them through my suggestions in order to be constructive and not overtly negative. Moreover, some of my fellow ISM students also peer reviewed my digital portfolio, and the advice I was given was greatly helpful. The criticism was positive, constructive, and informative. Therefore, I am glad to have fellow ISM students around me to provide feedback and help when I need it. Additionally, this week I wrote an interview assessment over my interview meeting with Mr. Bradley Shogren. In this assessment, I discussed the contents of our interview together, my hopes and expectations going into the interview, and what I gained from the interview. Overall, this interview assessment was greatly beneficial in letting me review the knowledge that Mr. Shogren shared with me during our interview, and I’m able to apply this information to my original work project. Also, I worked some more on my original work project by working through some more modules on Codecademy in order to build on my coding skills for my artificial intelligence predictive model.

Diving Back Into Research- November 8th, 2021

This week in ISM, I returned back to the research aspect of the course. To clarify, for a while, my assessments were over the interviews I had that week, so I had paused my research assessments. However, this week, I chose to write my assessment over a research article in order to work some more on my original work research. This article discussed the concepts of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and its implementations in the medical field. The research article went over current methods of developing artificial intelligence, and was of great use to me. I was able to educate myself more on the principles of artificial intelligence, and the process that goes into developing it. Furthermore, the article was quite long and complex, so most of my week went into annotations and the research assessment. Additionally, I also had my fifth interview with Mr. Sushil Shiva from Ericsson, which was virtual. I’ve noticed that, with each interview, I’ve gotten more comfortable with conversing with professionals, and have a better understanding of the concepts they discuss with me. Also, I will make sure to write an interview assessment over this next week. Furthermore, next week, I plan on choosing my mentor and reaching out to my potential mentor to request them for this opportunity.

ISM Research Speech- November 15th, 2021

This week, I had to prepare for my speech the following week. This speech meant creating a research presentation that introduced me and my topic, why I chose my topic, and detailed all my findings thus far, including what I will do for my original work product. Along with the presentation, I also have to prepare and memorize a speech that will properly elaborate on my presentation. Even though this sounds like a lot of work, I appreciate this assignment because it is an opportunity for me to revisit the reasons why I chose to do artificial intelligence and machine learning for my topic in the first place and lets me recall all the research assessments and interview meetings I have finished thus far. Furthermore, I also completed an interview assessment over my interview with Mr. Sushil Shiva. The assessment detailed my hopes going into the interview, all the knowledge I gained from my interview, and the ideas he shared with me. Overall, this assessment was also a good way to revisit the information that Mr. Sushil Shiva shared with me. Moreover, I also created a list of around 15 people I would like to invite to my research showcase. Then, I created an invitation for them, that will be mailed to them.

How To Give A Speech- November 29, 2021

I started off this week by giving a research presentation that detailed the experiences I have had with ISM thus far. For this speech, I had to prepare a presentation beforehand that outlined and gave visual aids to the speech I would be giving as well. I am proud of the presentation I created, because I believe that it is visually appealing and informative to the audience as well. Furthermore, I also believe that the speech I gave was well put together, and flowed properly. Since I had to memorize my speech in order to connect the best I could with the audience, I made sure to practice my speech many times. However, having the presentation along with some notecards to occasionally aid me was very helpful in addition to practicing. The way I practiced my speech was by going through it in front of the mirror, which was a useful tactic. Moreover, my fellow ISM students also gave speeches, which were very impressive. I gave speech evaluations to 4 of my fellow classmates, which detailed any feedback I had for them. Overall, the people that surround me in my ISM class are smart and impressive students, and this speech goes to prove that even further. Lastly, I finished up another research assessment, where I learned about the misplaced fear of artificial intelligence.

Advancing My Original Work - Dec 6, 2021

This week, I worked a lot more on furthering my original work. I logged around 6 more hours this week, and read a couple of articles to properly understand the overview of an artificial intelligence predictive model. Also, I worked some more on my presentation, which will detail the architecture of my artificial intelligence predictive model. Moreover, I also completed a self evaluation for my research speech that I gave around 3 weeks ago. I got to review my speech, reflect on my mistakes, and acknowledge the things I did correctly in my speech. This evaluation really helped me understand how to become a better speaker, because I was able to pinpoint the mistakes I made, such as distracting movements and hand gestures. Also, for my original work product, I worked on creating my presentation and made a couple of visual figures to document the structure of my artificial intelligence predictive model. I plan to use this presentation as a sort of pitch for my actual artificial intelligence predictive model, which will be for my final product. Also, I updated my digital portfolio, which is my website, to accurately timeline some of my more recent developments in ISM. This means I updated my blogs, my original work, and cleaned up the site a bit more.
